Privacy Notice

EFFECTIVE SEPT.1. 2025

Registered Financial Planners Institute (hereinafter referred to as "RFPI", "we", "our" or "us") is dedicated to safeguarding your privacy and the personal information you have confided in us. This privacy notice (hereinafter referred to as the "Privacy Notice") details the methods by which RFPI collects and processes information—whether via www.rfpi.com (hereinafter referred to as the "Site") or through your utilization of any of our other services (collectively referred to as the "Services"). Additionally, it outlines the measures we implement to ensure the security of such information.

Information encompasses two categories: personal information and non-personal information. "Personal information" denotes any data you provide to us directly, the information that can identify you as an individual, either on its own or when combined with other data. Examples of personal information include your name and email address. "Non-personal information," by contrast, refers to data that cannot be used to identify you personally. This includes, for instance, cookies and your device’s operating system.

  5. Email Address
  6. Phone Number
  7. Job Title
  8. Employer
  9. Payment Information (e.g., credit card)

To lawfully process your personal information, we rely upon either your consent or our obligation to fulfill a contract we have with you. In certain limited circumstances, we may process your personal information where it is in our legitimate interests, provided that such processing is not overridden by your privacy rights.

Information We Collect

When you use the Services, including interacting on our Site we may automatically collect certain non-personal information from your visit, often referred to as technical information. The technical information obtained from your computer or mobile device may include:

  5. analyze Site traffic patterns
  6. support Site security efforts

Information We Receive from Other Sources

We may obtain personal information about you from our authorized business partners, which include payment processors, exam administration firms, exam preparation providers, and package delivery companies. For instance, we might receive updated postal address details from one of our package fulfillment partners.

How We Store Your Information

Your privacy and the security of your personal information are paramount to us. We store your personal information on secure servers situated within the United States. We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational safeguards to protect your personal information against unauthorized use, disclosure, or loss—including adherence to current industry-standard encryption protocols. Additionally, we restrict access to your personal information exclusively to those individuals who have a "need to know" in order to deliver the Services.

We will retain your personal information for the minimum duration necessary for us to fulfill our obligations with respect to the Service(s) rendered to you. In certain instances, we may be required to retain your personal information for a greater duration in order to comply with our document retention policies and requirements pursuant to applicable laws.

Where we have provided you with login credentials, including the ability to select and reset your password, you are responsible for keeping it confidential.

Who We Share Your Information With

Your personal information will never be sold to any third party under any circumstances. That said, we do engage external third-party providers to support the delivery of our Services. In these cases, we may disclose your personal information to our affiliated entities and trusted third-party partners, but only to the extent strictly necessary for fulfilling the Services you have requested.

When such disclosure occurs, these third parties are legally obligated via contractual agreements to maintain strict confidentiality. They are further restricted to processing your personal information solely in accordance with our explicit instructions, with no independent authority to use or share the data beyond our directives.

It is important to note that if you reside in a country different from where our third-party partners operate, our sharing of your personal information may qualify as an "international data transfer" under the data protection laws applicable to your jurisdiction. In these scenarios, we have put in place robust protective measures to safeguard your data. This includes leveraging recognized "adequacy decisions" (where applicable) or entering into formal data processing agreements that mandate our third-party partners to comply fully with all relevant data privacy regulations and maintain rigorous data security standards.

  1. Third Party Partners – including, cloud service providers, exam delivery partners, exam preparation providers, payment processors, and package fulfillment companies.

When you register for an exam, we give you the option to have exam preparation providers (“REPs”) contact you regarding the services they offer to prepare candidates to take our exams. With your consent, we will share your name, email address, and city/state of residence with such EPPs. The purpose of sharing your city and state is to provide EPPs with the region in which you are located.

From time to time, we may share registrant lists with qualified sponsors of RFPI’s events, including conventions, symposiums, and webinars (collectively referred to as “RFPI Events”). These lists contain key registrant details such as name, job title, affiliated organization, and email address.

Following the completion of any RFPI Event, select qualified sponsors may be permitted to send you a one-time email regarding their product and service offerings. This permission is subject to jurisdictional requirements, however: if you reside in a region where explicit consent from you is legally mandated prior to such communication, we will only allow the email to be sent if we have obtained your prior approval.

Should legal obligations or mandatory requirements arise, we may disclose your information to relevant governmental bodies or law enforcement agencies.

However, there are circumstances where we may be legally obligated to retain your personal information—for instance, to fulfill our contractual commitments to you or to adhere to mandatory document retention policies.
  6. Objection to Processing Right: You may submit a request for us to cease processing your personal information. This request is subject to specific conditions that must be met to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  7. Processing Restriction Right: You are authorized to object to our processing of your personal information for particular purposes, such as activities related to direct marketing.
